Brass Band Festival

Paul had a painting gig this weekend so the boys and I headed out to Danville for their annual Brass Band Festival. There were brass bands all over town for the whole weekend.

We started off with a parade and made friends with this clown. The parade was great. Lots of flatbeds & the like featuring most of the bands that played around town. One of the funniest was the Oriental band which was a bunch of old fat guys with no shirts on playing various kinds of brass instruments. The boys and I laughed pretty hard at that one.

The first band we saw was this rag-time band. Check out the piano player's seat!

We watched the Air Force Reserve Brass Band play, then checked out the historical buildings at one of the parks. We saw an old court house, post office, jail, log cabin, etc. who's claim to fame is that each was the first this side of the Alleghenies. Then we moved on to the town square and checked out a nearby Art museum which had some great glass and clay pieces (Joel really appreciated the art) then heard yet another brass band which focused on music from Lincoln's lifetime. Once the band finished we saw a play featuring Lincoln and were able to take a picture with "Lincoln" afterwards.

by the time we'd finished with the play we were wiped out and ready to head for home until we passed by Center College which was gearing up for yet another Brass band. So we parked the car bought a gyro, lemonade, and funnel cake to share and listed to some more music.

Here's a picture of some of the crowd, hard to tell from this but there were tons of people. Overall we had a great time and I have to give it to the boys they were great sports.
