Glass Works in Louisville

Before we headed home from the Balloon Festival we checked out the Glass Works in Louisville. We took a tour and watched a couple of glass working demonstrations. This is a picture of one of the guys glass blowing - He made that bottle in his hands in less than 10 minutes! Pretty cool place we really enjoyed it - in fact Paul and Joel said they liked it even more than the Balloon Festival.

Hot Air Balloon Festival

Louisville hosts a Hot Air Balloon Festival every year & I was so happy we caught it this year. We headed up Friday Night for the Balloon Glow which was absolutely beautiful. If you're in the area you should check out this festival. All you pay for is your parking and food, everything else is free. They have lots of bouncy houses set up, kids games, a health fair with all kinds of activities, live music, fireworks, free breakfast on Saturday morning and of course food vendors & a craft fair. Lot's of fun!

Here's Joel climbing the rock wall. We really felt bad for Caleb, he wanted to do this so bad but they wouldn't let him with his broken arm (imagine that). They almost didn't let him in the bouncy houses either - So glad they did or the festival would have been a total bust for him.

Inside a hot air balloon. This was pretty cool. They had a balloon on it's side with a big fan blowing air in it. We got to walk around inside the balloon and the boys loved to hide in the folds of the panels.

Early Saturday Morning we headed out to the airfield to catch the race. All the balloons came in over the horizon & flew right over our heads, I kept trying to count how many but there were too many to tell. At least 40, but I think there were probably more than that.

There were balloons in all shapes & colors. We would see one & say that's our favorite then an even better one would fly over our heads. But, we all especially loved the specialty balloons like this rocket, there was also a bear, a cow, and a birthday cake.

Festival in Midway

Midway is a small town about a 1/2 hr from us that we've been wanting to check out. So we headed that way for their festival. We had a good time checking out the craft booths (bought several Christmas presents there) and the boys had lots of fun building forts with these mega blocks.

Corvette

The Corvette makes a come-back! Shawn & Joanna gave the boys this car for Christmas a couple of years ago but this past year it gave out. One of our pastor's took a look at it & hooked up a wheel chair battery to it, and now it's as good as new again. We had lots of fun watching the boys & their friends driving all over campus.

Garden Friends

I came home from work today to find these friends in our garden. Caleb loves his animals and always has some in his hands, very often it's these guys. : )

UK Football Game

When Joel began school he became a huge University of Kentucky fan so this year we joined the UK Kid's club. The boys get free tickets to one game in each sport UK plays. Today we headed to the football game.

When we came out of the tunnel and into the stadium I was amazed! The entire stadium was Royal blue and white. Everyone was standing & shouting, the bands were playing, the dancers dancing, cheerleaders cheering etc. The team spirit was incredible and I kept telling Paul I'd never seen anything like it - not even at an ATM game - I mean the entire stadium was literally blue & white. Then when the football teams ran out on the field I realized that both sides were Royal Blue & White! We had a great laugh over that one.

Happy Flowers

The Provost's office brought the flowers used in the Commencement service to our office today. They were absolutely beautiful and since the arrangement was enormous I pulled out a couple of flowers every time I had to run an errand on campus and delivered them to whoever was in the office I was visiting. It was great fun to see everyone's reaction. Then I brought home enough for a beautiful arrangement for us to enjoy at home.

Another Waterballoon Fight

We just love those waterballoon fights!

Metronomes

Tonight we headed to Wilmore's Summer Concert Series finale. It seemed like the whole town was there. The Metronomes played and 3 Suns Bistro came out and served their famous pecan crusted chicken with all the fancy fixings to go with it. After we ate we played frisbee for a while then we took a carriage ride home. Here's a picture of the Metronomes and one of the College buildings that we passed on the way home. Good times.

Broken Arm # 2

Caleb broke his arm yesterday. Last year, almost to the day, he broke his other arm at the playground. This time, Paul went to pick up Caleb from School and noticed that he was holding his arm. When Paul asked if he was OK his teacher said he had fallen from the monkey bars but that after a short rest he went back out to play. Of course we immediately took him to the emergency room & sure enough it was broken. His teacher felt awful, she said he hardly cried, which is typical of Caleb. Even the folks at the emergency room couldn't believe he wasn't crying. He's one tough kid!

The Bug

Joel's been studying all about bugs at school and had an assignment to make a bug, real or imaginary, at home & bring it in for show & tell. He was so excited after taking his in - he said that everyone agreed that his was the best & that they all laughed at the mustache.
