Louisville Slugger Museum

The boys got free admission to the Louisville Slugger Museum through our Summer Reading Program so when we were deciding what to do this weekend & Joel suggested the museum I was all for it. : )

We went on a factory tour and saw how they make the bats, saw the contracted players signatures which included all kinds of Hall of famer's (we have a picture of Micky Mantel's below), watched a short film, hit a round in the batting cages, looked at every little thing they had in the gift shop at least twice as the boys made the rounds looking for something under $5, climbed all over and inside a giant statue of a ball & glove, toured the museum with a dug-out & ball field (see Joel ready to bat below), and my favorite.... checked out the Play Ball, Mr. President: A Century of Baseballs Signed by U.S. Presidents exhibit which were not just signed balls but also the ones thrown as the first pitch of the season, they began with Roosevelt and went all the way through George W. & We learned an interesting tid-bit....Roosevelt was not happy with having to throw the first pitch, he thought that baseball was a sissy sport that would never last, but he did it anyway for the press benefits & started a tradition of Presidential first throws.

We had a good time and the boys loved the souvenir bats they give out at the end of the factory tour. Here's some pictures from our trip.

This bat is in the Guinness Book of Word records (250 feet I think) I couldn't get the whole bat in but I tried. : )
