4th of July

We love celebrating the 4th of July in Wilmore, so there was no way we'd let a little rain stop us from the parade line-up! : )

The Lawnmower Brigade has always been one of our favorites. We know most of these guys - they decorate their lawnmowers, practice some fancy moves, then WOW the onlookers with their amazing precision & skill! : )

The Freedom Pirates were a new addition this year - here's one of them handing out treats to the boys.

Here's yet another picture of the boys with Abe. This time we even got Uncle Sam.

After the parade we all head down to the Wilmore campgrounds for the Festival of the 4th where we get .25 cent hot dogs, Ale 8's & Watermelon, go for free horse rides, listen to live bands, check out the craft vendors, get sno-cones, check out the apple pie and brownie contests, and the Spelling Bee. This year Joel asked if he could be in the Spelling Bee! We hadn't even thought of entering him but were so excited when he said he wanted to try. Here you can see them riding horses & Joel on stage at the Spelling Bee.

We headed to the church for pot - luck & to stake out our viewing spot for the fireworks. After we ate, Caleb & Joel got a ride on Ralph's wheelchair. He let's the kids hop on back and gives them a spin around the church grounds. His chair is actually pretty fast - the kids had a blast.

At the pot-luck the church handed out glow sticks on strings to all the kids. So from the hill where we were watching the fireworks we could see about 4 different shows at one time and we could see all the kids at the bottom of the hill swinging their glow sticks around. You may not be able to tell from this picture but it was really cool!
